The Harmonious Mind of Albert Einstein

As you may know, I am a therapist who sees healing as interconnected. In many cases, the themes faced by my clients are areas in which I am working on myself. And a central lesson for myself as of yet has been self-acceptance. By being at peace with ourselves through self-acceptance, we can come to be at peace with those around us. In a dream that I recently had, I was shown the importance of harmony within self and others.

Aware of the fact that I’m dreaming, I fly around a large city for much of the dream. Somewhere along the way, I fall into conflict with a family member. While I seemingly win at times, I seemingly lose at others. Regardless of who wins at any given moment, our fighting keeps the samsaric pattern of repetition going. The relentless resentment drags on till I cease to fight. As if to reward my choice for harmony, I fly once more peacefully around the city and read part of a magazine title “The Harmonious Mind of Albert Einstein.”

After awakening and journaling this dream, I drive to Fort Collins to see a friend. I then synchronously notice that my exit is on Harmony Road when I’m 20 miles away! The number 20 provides further synchrony, as 20 (2+0=2) is 2 in numerology, which just so happens to symbolize harmony! These synchronicities inspire me to discover many quotes of Einstein, one of which reads, “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” In another one of his quotes, Einstein states, “Once we accept our limits, we can go beyond them.”

The first step, then, in being at peace with others is being at peace with ourselves, for it is through accepting our shadow parts and shining love on them that we can go beyond them. Let us bless ourselves with the gift of self-accpetance, that- in cultivating inner harmony- we may share our harmony with the world.
